A significant new, illustrated history commissioned by the Manufacturing Alliance of Philadelphia presents a unique view of the region’s manufacturing past and present as it looks toward a bright future. The book was co-sponsored by the Urban Industry Initiative and the City of Philadelphia.

Jane Mork Gibson was a founding member of the Oliver Evans Chapter and worked diligently to promote the SIA mission concerning the industrial heritage of the Delaware Valley. She left the area to be closer to family, but she sorely missed her friends and colleagues in Philadelphia who will continue to hold her and her contributions in high regard.
Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, colleague and friend, with a long career as a historian of Philadelphia industry and technology, died on Wednesday November 23, after a brief illness, in Atlanta, Georgia. Family members were by her side. She was 93.

Martha Capwell Fox is in charge of maintaining the Museum’s collection of photographs, artifacts, books, films and videos, and historic documents. She creates and installs exhibits for the Museum’s changing exhibit gallery; “Dixie: Easton’s Cup of Health and Happiness” was presented during the 2016 season. In addition, Martha works as a docent and interpreter in the Museum, the Locktenders House, and aboard the Josiah White II, the only mule-drawn canal boat ride in Pennsylvania.
The presentation will include W.W. Chambers’ 1930s era film of the Fairmount Waterworks, the Aquarium, Boathouse Row and Fairmount Park. Also included will be the segment of the 1979 NOVA episode “The Bridge that Spanned the World” which describes the birth of the American Industrial Revolution in the Lehigh Valley. “This is Steel”, a film from Bethlehem Steel and “Blast Furnace/Open Hearth Furnace” from US Steel will be included as well as “Silk Mill” footage shot in the last silk mill in Allentown. If time permits, a railroad film will be included.
