Schuylkill Navigation Bicentennial  Canal-Rail Excursion
April 5, 2025

Enjoy an exciting day, from both a canal-fan and rail-fan point of view! The train will follow the Schuylkill from Reading to Port Carbon – a rare chance to see the river close-up, with stops along the way to view remnants of a navigation system that predates the Erie Canal. You can find all the information at this web page, which includes a registration form:

Not mentioned on the web page is that Mike Riley, president of the American Canal Society, is working with local experts to produce a 40-page guide to the 38-mile top section of the navigation that the tour will cover, with new maps to help explain what we’ll be seeing.
