Request for Chapter Assistance

Dear Members and Supporters of the Oliver Evans Chapter of the Society for Industrial Archeology

The chapter has been in existence since 1984, and during that time has hosted two national SIA conferences (1990 and 2007), published books on local industrial history, and sponsored numerous tours, presentations, banquets, and Zoom talks.

Unfortunately, while we are proud of the chapter’s work over the past forty years, the officers are aging and we need to bring in new blood if we are to continue. We do not currently have a president, because the legendary Joel Spivak, who had filled that role, died last year. We particularly need volunteers to help with ideas and follow-up planning for process tours and presentations—making phone calls to arrange the visits and the like. This would be the revitalizing of a Program Committee. We could also use help in sharing our information on social media.

If you are interested in serving as an officer or as a volunteer, please contact us at oesiaphila@gmail.com.

After we have heard from possible officer/volunteers we will schedule a membership meeting in the new year to chart a path forward.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

About US

The SIA’s emphasis on archeology reflects a concern for the tangible evidence of early industry.  Our mission is the study, interpretation, and preservation of the surviving factories, machinery, bridges, canals, industrial communities and artifacts that are historically significant.
