Our acting president, Joel Spivak, died Monday morning the same day as the Pope. Despite months of rehab and recovery after an initial brain bleed last summer, Joel just didn’t have the strength to overcome repeated infections and hospitalizations. I got a call from Diane, Joel’s wife. It was not a sudden event so many friends and his sister were able to visit him over the weekend. Diane was with him when his systems finally shut down.
If you Google Joel’s name there are so many sites that have stories about him and the people and organizations that he affected. Diane said she will have to rent a stadium to accommodate all the people who will want to honor his memory. She was waiting for a call from Kevin Riordan at the Inquirer who will write an obituary.
The Oliver Evans Chapter was revitalized by Joel and we are grateful for his leadership these last few years. We are considering how the chapter might best honor his memory.
Here is just one of the links that explains so much about Joel, his talents, and his contributions.
