The Week magazine features a charity of the week in each issue. The September 25th issue features the following charity.
Since 1997, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art (railphoto-art.org) has gathered, showcased, and preserved photos depicting railroads and trains in historical and modern contexts. The non-profit collects quality photographs and other works of art related to railroading and manages them in the Railroad Heritage Visual Archive, a repository of more than 700,000 photos, some of which have been digitized and are searchable and shareable. The center does not have its own museum, but has worked closely with other institutions on over 20 exhibitions, such as a collaboration with the Chicago History Museum documenting the city’s railroad community. For the past 23 years, it has hosted an annual conference connecting some 200 railroading experts and enthusiasts. Since 2000, it has also been publishing a quarterly journal, Railroad Heritage, filled with photographs and articles based on images from the center’s collection and other railroad art.
